Ubuntu (ùbúntú): a South African ethic or ideology focusing on people's allegiances and relations with each other. Rough translation in English: "humanity towards others" .... "I am because we are." ... "The belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity." This is our journey to discover what the word truly means - to live it, experience it and then share it.

Changing Futures AND Shopping... could life get any better?!?!?

Mlungisi and Siyanda have been living in Ohlange, a shelter for formerstreet children. Unfortunately with little schooling and no skills training many boys like these two get "stuck" in shelters and sometimes must return to the streets after 18. I was visiting with the guys at Ohlange a few months ago and these two really sought me out truly wanting to change their lives, their location and their future. Just two weeks later we had found a job at a success travel organization that was willing to train them and then upon successful completion of the training, hire them! The first week on the job we had the interesting task of taking them shopping... it was incredibly fun to see the smiles on their faces when they walked out with two huge bags of new clothes. It amazed how even something as little as our appearance can increase our confidence and our demeanor... these boys have been a huge success at their jobs. And have now been hired full time! Now that's an incredible success story!!
